WORK
BLUME & FERRIS
Blume & Ferris Public House began when a seasoned brewer, Alec Blume, met his perfect match—Micheal Ferris, an Irishman from Kilkenny with a deep love for old wooden pubs. Micheal’s family runs a joinery back home, and he also owns a brewing equipment supply in town. Together, they’ve created one of the only domestic producers of Irish-style beers.
Their cozy pub will bring a piece of the Irish old-world to the western suburbs of Chicago, with small booths, warm lighting, and plenty of wood. At the heart of it all is the concept of a true "Public House," where the name "Blume & Ferris" adds just a touch of formality.
CREATIVE DIRECTION
As someone with a strong ties to his Irish heritage I had the privilege of crafting a completely new brand that reflects the warmth, authenticity, and culture of traditional Irish pubs. I conducted extensive research into the history of brewers and public houses in the late 17th to 18th century and beyond aiming to reflect that heritage while maintaining a modern approach to branding. The color palette is rich and earthy—deep greens, and soft amber tones—reflecting Ireland's cultural colors in a new perspective. I carefully selected typography that marries tradition with a modern edge, while the custom illustrations capture the rustic charm of early printed images. I also created unique beer labels and coasters, each designed to enhance the experience, with intricate details that tell their story with every pour.
